Expression System Advantages
The Company's proprietary expression technologies, including SEPTM, are highly amenable to the development and commercial production of a broad array of biopharmaceuticals, including monoclonal antibodies, fusion proteins, and cytokines. More specifically, the SEPTM enjoys the following characteristics and advantages:
- Peptide structure is 100% homologous to humans with glycans commonly found in human serum and cell membranes
- Significantly reduced cost of production: Capital investment required for facilities is 90% less than CHO systems and upstream manufacturing costs are 60-75% less than CHO
- Enhanced efficacy: SEPTM naturally creates mAbs with 10 – 100 times the ADCC activity of mAbs produced in CHO systems
- Expression levels equivalent to or greater than CHO systems: Our expression levels are currently ~5 grams per liter and are set to double to ~10 grams per liter in 2009
- Comprehensive IP portfolio: 40 issued patents, over 80 pending applications covering products, vectors, promoters, and methods
